Follow this path down Wharf Hill, past the Black Boy Pub. At the bottom of the hill, just in the background to this picture, can be seen some old timber framed cottages 'Bargee Cottages' which once stood at the head of the 'Itchen Navigation'. It is likely, however, that they pre-date the building of the canal.
